Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website, why we hold it, how long we keep it and the rights you can exercise. It covers enquiry forms, email contact, cookies and analytics.
Who we are
Sludge Removal is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. Our address is Suite 114b Business First, Davyfield Road, Blackburn, Lancashire BB1 2QY. You can contact us by phone on 0333 533 0162 or by email at info@sludgeremoval.co.uk.
What personal data we collect
We collect the details you choose to give us when you submit an enquiry or contact us. This normally includes your name, phone number, email address, site or postcode details, and a description of the work you need. If you send documents such as waste transfer notes, sampling results or site plans, we may hold those too.
Our website and hosting systems process technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, which can include IP address, browser information and requested pages. Google Analytics 4 and Meta Pixel are optional and load only after you accept the relevant analytics or targeting cookie category.
The Chat with us service loads only when you click to open it. If you use chat, we record the messages and any name or email address you provide, together with the visited page, IP address and browser details. Local storage is used to remember the chat on your device.
Why we use your data
- To respond to your enquiry.
- To answer questions and provide information you have asked for.
- To keep records of enquiries and any related correspondence.
- To maintain the security and performance of the website.
- To meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations that apply to us.
Our lawful bases are legitimate interests for handling enquiries and running the site, consent where you have agreed to optional cookies or marketing, and legal obligation where we must keep records. You can withdraw consent at any time for anything based on consent.
Who we share data with
We also use service providers for website hosting, email delivery, analytics and advertising where applicable.
This website is hosted on Oracle Cloud infrastructure in the United States. Website notification email is sent through SMTP2GO, whose account service is hosted in the EU. Google Analytics 4 and Meta Pixel may process data outside the UK when you consent to those services. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the arrangements made available by the relevant provider and the contractual safeguards that apply to our use of that service, including applicable standard contractual clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where relevant. We do not claim that all processing stays in the UK or that we have independently audited every provider safeguard.
How long we keep data
We keep enquiry data for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, taking account of business need and any legal, accounting or dispute requirements. Retention therefore varies by record type and circumstances. Live chat data follows a separate operational process: archived chat records are retained for 20 days and live chat records for 90 days, with operational backup archives retained separately. We do not claim that every backup copy is erased after 90 days.
Cookies and analytics
We use a cookie preference tool to record your choices. Google Analytics 4 loads only after analytics consent and Meta Pixel loads only after targeting consent. Rejecting optional cookies prevents those scripts from loading. If you later withdraw consent, the page reloads without those optional scripts and their first-party cookies are cleared. You can change your choices using Cookie settings in the footer. Our cookie policy explains the categories in more detail.
For more detail on the cookies we use and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights including access to your data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing, and data portability. You also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@sludgeremoval.co.uk. We will respond within the time allowed by law.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Its guidance for the public explains how to raise a concern and how to make a subject access request: ico.org.uk/for-the-public.
Security and changes
We take reasonable steps to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No website or email system is completely secure, so please avoid sending sensitive information unless it is needed for your enquiry.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page. If changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention.
